Centering Black Women Is Not Exclusion — It’s Intention

Recently, I was asked a question about my business model — whether I regret centering my brand so intentionally around Black women.

The question didn’t offend me.

But it did remind me how rarely Black women are allowed to be centered without explanation.

Kaftan Kulture Global Is a Love Letter to Black Women

So let me explain — plainly, honestly, and from the heart.

I Am a Black Man Raised by Black Women

I am a Black man who was raised, shaped, protected, corrected, and loved by intelligent, strong, nurturing Black women — first in my own home, and then throughout my community.

The women who raised me were visionaries before that word became fashionable.

They were elegant without effort.

Powerful without permission.

Creative, resourceful, stylish, disciplined, spiritual, and resilient — often all at once.

They were my first teachers.

My first examples of leadership.

My first understanding of beauty, dignity, and grace.

Kaftan Kulture Global exists because of them.

This Brand Is Not a Strategy — It Is a Thank You

Centering Black women is not a marketing decision for me.

It is personal.

This brand is a love letter to the women who carried families, communities, and culture on their backs — often without recognition, often without rest, and always with style.

It is my way of saying:

I see you.

I honor you.

I remember you.

I celebrate you.

Every silhouette, every fabric choice, every image, every story begins with Black women — because that is where my life began.

All Women Are Welcome — With Reverence

Let me be clear: women of all backgrounds are welcome to enjoy, purchase, and participate in this brand.

But welcome does not mean re-centered.

This space was intentionally created to keep Black women visible, affirmed, and at the center — not pushed to the margins to make others more comfortable.

Respect in this space means:

  • Understanding that you can be included without being centered
  • Honoring the culture without attempting to control it
  • Appreciating the beauty without demanding ownership

When you enter a space built from love and legacy, you honor its purpose — you don’t ask it to change its shape.

This Is What Alignment Looks Like

There is a myth that centering one community limits growth.

My experience — and my truth — says the opposite.

When a brand is rooted in authenticity, it doesn’t shrink — it radiates.

When it speaks clearly, it doesn’t exclude — it connects.

When it leads with love instead of fear, it creates resonance across borders.

Kaftan Kulture Global was never meant to be everything to everyone.

It was meant to be true.

I Have No Regrets — Only Gratitude

I do not regret centering Black women.

I do not regret building a brand anchored in gratitude, reverence, and respect.

I do not regret creating a space where Black women are celebrated without apology or explanation.

If anything, I am honored to spend my life giving back — creatively — to the women who gave me everything.

So if you are here to celebrate Black women, to stand beside them without silencing them, and to enjoy beauty rooted in legacy — welcome.

And if that center makes you uncomfortable, this simply may not be your space.

Kaftan Kulture Global is not exclusion.

It is intention.

It is gratitude.

It is love — made visible.

Kaftan Kulture Global

A love letter to Black women, everywhere.

This is power.

  1. Brilliantly and truthfully stated. Your cadence with the written word is as wonderful and inspiring as your command of the spoken word. I am looking forward to more. Espavo Malcolm!
